Watch the video below as a first grade student in Ms. Kwilos' class talks about creating her ebook.
Ms. Kwilos' students are working very hard to create ebooks using their iPads. Students create ebooks to explain what they are learning. Publishing ebooks is an example of how our teachers are integrating technology into the curriculum and how students are focusing on 21st Century Learning skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication). It is important that we teach students to be flexible in their thinking and to be creative when solving problems. These skills are preparing students for a world that is changing rapidly and for careers that are unknown. Students in Ms. Kwilos' class write across the curriculum, meaning they are writing in math, social studies, and science. Writing across content areas is a life skill and is an important skill in the Common Core State Standards. This student kindly explained to me what Movenote is and how she is using it in class. She did a great job of explaining it on the spot with no practice. In addition to the student video, watch the two professional videos below to learn more about Movenote. Find out how you can integrate Movenote into Google Drive for online presentations. Movenote can be found in the Chrome Web Store or in the iTunes Store for free. I can think of many uses for Movenote in the classroom for students and for teachers. Teachers can use it to:
Can you add more ideas via the comments? This is a great way to share your ideas with colleagues! Mrs. Serrano's class created PowToons to summarize the book, James and the Giant Peach. Each student was given two chapters to reread and summarize. Then, students paired up and created a PowToon to animate their assigned chapters. Turn up your volume because some PowToons have music! This is a great example of how teachers are integrating technology when teaching our new curriculum aligned to the Common Core Standards.
